That's what the Admins at Ponystars and PoneyVallee are saying, anyway! They popped up around 2006, three years after Pony Island's creation. You may know of an artist by the name of ~flyingpony right here on DA (known also as Lunacat) that does a really wonderful pony comic. Anyways, she did some artwork for Pony Island, which about two years or so later, Ponystars copy/pasted onto their own site and proceeded to try to call them their own! Called out on it, they responded by flipping and tracing the exact same images and changing a wing or tail minorly in an attempt to hide their theft better. They even sliced Pony Island breeds in half and stuck them together as a "rare" and "special" new breed on their rip off site. They are charging people $10 a month to keep their stolen-art creations alive as virtual pets.
To make matters even more interesting, they were caught selling the personal information of minors under the company called Playdom (owned by Disney, who knew?) and Ponystars was shut down. However a disreputable game company under the name Acclaim (not the same one that filed backruptcy, this is a new one) imported the french version with all the art theft pieces included.
Due to lack of funds to bring it to court and due to the fact that PoneyVallee refuses to answer Pony Island's lawyer to resolve the matter, they continue to steal Pony Island's property (And Lunarstar's therefore) and have even been caught copying Pony Island's own manual rules for their forums! How low can these people go?
If they can steal her work and take advantage of anyone who doesn't have the funds to challenge them, what's stopping anyone else from doing the same?
So I'm back from the "dead" to spread the word. You can find more information here:
www.facebook.com/pages/PoneyVa…Spread the word about these thieves and let them know what you think about their "business practices" as an artist. Feel free to forward this in your own journal as well. Every view counts! Let's help defend Lunacat and every artist out there like her from these frauds.
Thanks,
A fellow outraged artist (albeit absent lately)
